Overview

Rue St. Charles is located in the city of Longueuil on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River directly across from the island of Montreal. Longueuil is a suburban city with a population of approximately 250,000. Longueuil has its own bus service provided by the Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL) as well as the Longueuil–Université-de-Sherbrooke Metro station which connects Longueuil to downtown Montreal via the Yellow line of the Montreal Metro.

Rue St. Charles is one of the main arteries of Longueuil and this segment of Rue St. Charles, between Chemin de Chambly and Rue Guilbault, serves as a main commercial street in Old Longueuil. Since 2022, the area between rue Saint-Jacques and rue Sainte-Sylvestre undergoes pedestrianization from June to September.
